Nina Rutledge
Council of Student Sustainability Leaders
College
Nina Rutledge is a sophomore at Harvard College concentrating in Economics, with a secondary field in Energy and Environment and a German language certificate in progress. Nina’s interests began centered around environmental sciences; upon further exploration, she has developed a passion for energy transitions, critical minerals, and trade policy, and the broader geopolitics of climate-focused solutions that can be implemented in an equitable manner.
In her hometown, Nina served on the Athens-Clarke County Mayor’s Youth Council, where she was elected Secretary and appointed as the youth representative to the Future Land Use Steering Committee, lobbying and advocating for sustainable development. At her high school, she coordinated and implemented a composting program that is today entirely student-run, with the fundraising and infrastructure in place to endure for ten years to come. She has also conducted research as an assistant to Professor Elise Sunderland on PFAS contamination and bioremediation potential across New England, and has worked on load-flexibility policy through the CHARGED Initiative, in partnership with RMI, GridLab, and Advanced Energy United.
At Harvard, Nina serves on the Policy team of the Harvard Undergraduate Clean Energy Group and is an advertising associate for the Harvard Crimson. In her time, she strives to aid in mitigating existing climate threats and to push toward an equitable, sustainable world, with a long-term interest in international economic and energy policy.
