Hamza Molvi

Council of Student Sustainability Leaders

GSD/SEAS

Hamza Molvi (he/him) is a designer, communicator, public health and climate advocate, and first-year Master in Design Engineering candidate, a program jointly offered by the Harvard Graduate School of Design and John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. His work is guided by an observation from John Green’s Everything Is Tuberculosis: “The cure is where the disease is not and the disease is where the cure is not.” Hamza is interested in reimagining the infrastructure woven into our daily lives, inspired by the question: What if infrastructure were built with every community, and embedded with public health in every interaction to support human and planetary well-being every day, not just during crises?

Before Harvard, Hamza spent nearly six years in public health at the Oregon Health Authority, where he was entrusted with leading statewide campaigns, including Oregon’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Hamza’s strategic work also included supporting the rollout of the 988 lifeline in the state, responding to the historic 2021 Pacific Northwest Heat Dome, and supporting the agency’s Strategic Plan to eliminate health inequities across Oregon. This work deepened his conviction that communications alone can’t overcome barriers built into systems — which is what drew him to design and climate-health infrastructure specifically.

Through the Council of Student Sustainability Leaders, Hamza is excited to collaborate with peers toward developing regenerative and circular material practices that bring students across disciplines together, ultimately making campus a model for greener and healthier spaces.

Hamza can be found under tree canopies with his camera, exploring the produce aisle, culinary adventures, running, or tackling his precarious stack of New Yorker magazines.

Hamza would be happy to talk with you! You can reach out to him here.
