    Start the new year off fresh! This popular event promotes reuse and functions like a yard sale, except everything is free. Donate items you no longer need by dropping them off in the bin in the Gutman Library entryway starting December 11th, or directly at the Freecycle. Pick up something new-to-you that you could use. A donation is not required to shop the Freecycle.

    The Salata Institute and the Harvard Alumni Association present Harvard Voices on Climate Change, a virtual series featuring Harvard faculty and fellows working on different dimensions of the climate challenge. This session features David Brooks, Haley Family Professor of Computer Science, and Gage Hills, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, both from the Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. As the demand for computational power grows, so does its environmental footprint. Professors Brooks and Hills will explore how advancements in computing can contribute to a more sustainable future. Join us to hear about emerging technologies, energy-efficient designs, and the role of interdisciplinary innovation in addressing climate challenges.

    Sea Monsters on Maps: Myth, Mystery, and Marine Life

    For centuries, sea monsters have adorned maps, serving as both warnings and wonders of the unknown ocean. These artistic depictions reflected early attempts to understand the deep, blending legend with reality. From krakens to serpents, cartographers illustrated creatures based on sailors’ tales, inspiring fear, and curiosity. Over time, these mythical beasts influenced marine biology, shaping early studies of unknown species. Join us as we explore the fascinating history of sea monsters on maps and their role in unraveling the mysteries of the ocean.

    All HGSE students, faculty, and staff interested in making our school healthier and more sustainable are encouraged to join the HGSE Green Team! Come enjoy a (free!) plant-based and planet-friendly lunch and connect with each other to exchange ideas and explore collaborations. Please RSVP for this in-person event by Wednesday, April 2nd for the meeting so we can plan accordingly to avoid food waste.

    Schools and departments across the University are partnering with the Charles River Conservancy for a morning of cleaning up trash, microplastics, and debris to support a cleaner, healthier Charles River. The CRC will provide a brief education on the local river watershed and provide tools and training. All Harvard community members and their family and friends are welcome to participate!

    The Harvard Law School (HLS) Green Team is hosting a Freecycle event on April 17 in Hauser 105! Donations can be dropped off between 10:30-11:30 am and the event will run from 11:30 am-1:30 pm. Drop off reusable goods you no longer need, and browse a fantastic selection of items brought by others. Popular items include books, clothes, and working household goods.
